"Food as symbolism in TV and in real life!"
Severance plays on this dystopian reality where food is mentioned in a significant amount of episodes. Specifically eggs, watermelon, and waffles. Strange!
This show is the definition of quality and mysterious imagery. The waffles are used as a prize for completing difficult requirements—such as the infamous “waffle party,” where Dylan receives a hefty plate of waffles with a show. The characters are not exposed to many different foods but seem to only have positive connotations to waffles.
This made me think about how I also find it exciting to have a waffle or two. Since it isn’t an easy breakfast item to cook up (besides the frozen ones…let’s forget about those) a fresh waffle is special treat in my household.
The brand that my family and I have been obsessed with lately is Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Pancake Mix. Now I know what you might be thinking…Kalea how could gluten free waffles out of a bag really be as special as the reoccurring episodes of Severance?Let me tell you, these are incredible! Pair it with any fruit and you are set to have the perfect waffle. After trying many brands, this is the one I have been sticking with for a special breakfast at home.
